Better than the original.......Hrithik Roshan at his best.
28 January 2012 | by peter_strn (US) – See all my reviews

Agneepath is the template of how to make an Indian action movie.Hrithik Roshan should consider being an action hero, because this is what action looks like in it's most raw form.

The action scenes blow you away, the emotions are perfect.

I gave this a 9/10,which is the highest I've ever given a Hrithik Roshan movie. This surpasses the original in so many ways.Sanjay Dutt is the badass and Rishi Kapoor can give Ranbir Kapoor the run for his money even in his late years.

I would give bonus points to Karan Malhotra for topping the original in almost every sense.Hat's Off.

After the mindless films that preceded it during the Diwali weekend, Talaash comes as a breath of fresh air
4 December 2012 | by Vinay Payyapilly (India) – See all my reviews

The movie opens with a random accident involving a popular film star that seems to defy all explanation. It also introduces the main protagonist, Inspector Shekhawat (played gloriously by Aamir Khan). The rest of the movie details how the good inspector peels away the mystery surrounding the accident. Along the way, he also battles his own demons in the form guilt for his child's untimely death in an accident.

The movie is scripted well enough to keep you interested all the way to the end, even if the end if a tad bit tame.

Five-star performances from all the leading characters ensures that you are sucked into the mood and world that Reema Kagti creates. Nawazuddin Siddiqi gives another stellar performance to follow-up on his performance in Gangs of Wasseypur. Rani Mukherjee redeems her acting credentials after the disaster of Aiyaa. Kareena Kapoor is competent. However, it is Aamir Khan who steals the show with a highly nuanced performance which I am sure he will rate among his finest.

The music from Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is very complimentary and at no time does it intrude, as it is want to do in Hindi films, into the story-telling. Instead it is very much part of the story-telling and at times even takes things forward.

The movie is another feather in the cap of Zoya Akhtar who has penned the story and screenplay along with the director Reema Kagti. The credits for the dialogs are shared between Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap.

After the mindless films that preceded it during the Diwali weekend, Talaash comes as a breath of fresh air and bears a promise that Bollywood is not all about assuming that the audience is a collection of sheep waiting to be sheared.

Has very few funny moments and unnecessarily uses religious symbols to woo the viewers.
22 December 2012 | by bobbysing (India) – See all my reviews

With a vision of repeating the success story of his Rowdy Rathore, Akshay Kumar returns with another action comedy which unfortunately stands nowhere close to that fairly entertaining Hit. So if you considered Rowdy Rathore as an average film then this goes to an even lower level with only a single plus point in the project being its catchy soundtrack.

Therefore there is nothing to write about in details about Khiladi 786 as a movie experience to be honest. It is quite similar to Rohit Shetty kind of newly invented cinema and director Ashish R. Mohan strictly follows his mentor (Rohit), right from the first frame to the last including the punch lines, action, art direction and colours of the walls used in his sets too. But the film neither has got anything related to Akshay's personal brand of Khiladi, nor it has something to do with the religious symbols used in it scenes vaguely.

Based on a thin storyline (written by Himesh Reshamiya), the first half does give you few moments to enjoy along with the much publicized action sequences. But the second half continues to slide downward & drags till the end resulting in an uninteresting film altogether. So despite of some good foot tapping songs, Khiladi 786 fails to keep you engaged and one easily feels like walking away even before it officially ends.

Though Akshay performs well with a great confidence but there are very few good comic sequences featuring his famous comic timing and then the simply absurd double role in the climax further ruins the whole project completely. Himesh does more than one role in the film as the producer, writer, singer, composer & also the key supporting actor filling the space and he is just OK. Asin as usual is there for adding some glamour, Mithun Chakraborty is not as impressive as he was in Housefull 2 and I couldn't understand why Raj Babbar accepted such kind of meaningless minuscule role in this weak film.

Putting it together Khiladi 786 has only got some dancing tracks to entertain you till they last and nothing else in the name of content. Moreover it was sad to see, how they used the religious symbols (786 & Khanda – The Sikh Symbol) just to attract the viewers and to add some value to the product commercially. Thankfully it was never done in such a ridiculous manner in the past by thoughtful directors such as Manmohan Desai, Yash Chopra and Manoj Kumar.

Perfect Entertainer....Light Comedy with Heavy Topic
29 April 2012 | by Jay Mehta (Mumbai, India) – See all my reviews

It turned out to be pleasant surprize form Vicky Donor. While I waited for one week for the reviews before confirming if the movie is watchable, the movie stood tall in all aspects. Anu Kapoor is back with a bang with some impressive performances by Ayushman and Yami. The movie provided the right perspective to look at sperm donation and its importance. Though the conservatives with frown at such issues, even from the entertainment point of view, the movie provides everything that audience expects from a movie. The punches are spot on in terms of timing as well as dialogs. While a majority of the dialogs are in Punjabi (which might repel certain set of audiences), it just improves the originality of the plot. Music has been another highlight of the movie with the song "Paani Da Rang" being the masterpiece. Overall, a good 2-3 times watch.
