Storyline

Kanji Lalji Mehta, though an atheist, owns a small shop selling religious goods, concocting cock-and-bull stories to extract higher fees from his customers for his wares. When, in openly defying God, an earthquake destroys his (and only his) only source of income, with the insurance company refusing to pay up on the basis of it being an 'act of God', Kanjibhai takes God to the court. With many similarly unfortunate people pinning their hopes to him, Kanji's lack of courtroom experience may leave him unable to prove his point - that is, until approached by a man introducing himself as Krishna Vasudeva Yadav. Krishna helps Kanji win his case, his family and helps him find his faith in God, along the way showing how priests can turn religion into a business and that God can be found everywhere, particularly in a house of worship. A movie of cinematic excellence
14 September 2012 | by vikas-taank (Gurgaon) – See all my reviews

Barfi , well its a movie which I had been waiting for long. I perceive Barfi as an academy award winner as it brings out the cinematic excellence and emanates the highest attributes of human creativity. It speaks though its silent. Barfi is effortless , it flows smoothly from overture to crescendo. The comedy is so subtle and full of sweet subterfuges. Its an epitome of innocence. I will not reveal anything about the plot but the plot is superb with very miniature flaws that I would not like to notice in the purview of such momentous acting, editing, background scores and mellifluous songs. The narration in the movie is intriguing and funny as well in a sense that keeps the viewer hooked. Songs are well in place, situational comedy is more than appropriate , nothing seems imposed , every scene seems to have taken its own natural course. The movie is set in Darjeeling way back 1970. Ranbir has exuded his panache with excellent acting. Priyanka actually has evolved with this movie and she is all set to move to next level. The screenplay of the movie is amazing, the events are well woven , the movie flip-flops between past and present and the narration makes it very clear, there is no place where events confuse the viewer. Well as a final verdict I would say that I felt cathartic after watching the movie , I expunged all maturity and I found solace in craziness, the movie exposed me to simplicity of life and helped me to appreciate who I am. Must Watch.

Trivia
The scene featuring a flooded coal mine (just before Sardar Khan is born) is shot in a real coal mine that was actually dry. Using the sound of water dripping and people wading through water, and actors walking as if struggling to cross water, they created the illusion of flooded mine in the darkly lit shot. For the safety of crew, there is not a drop of water inside the mine. See more »

A riveting drama spanning decades
22 June 2012 | by Kalyan Bhaskar (India) – See all my reviews

One of the most awaited movies of the year, the first part of Gangs of Wasseypur lives up to expectations. However, the only disappointing aspect of the movie is that one has to wait for the part two of the movie to see how the story unfolds. The movie is based at Wasseypur and other surrounding areas of Dhanbad. The time-line of the movie spans from early 1940s to early 1990s. The second part of the movie is expected to span from early 1990s to mid 2000s. It's a story of Pathans Shahid Khan (played by Jaideep Ahlawat)and his son Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee, Qureshis, and politician-cum-coal mine owner-cum- local don Ramadheer Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia)and his son. The tussle between Pathans and Qureshis, and that between Shahid Khan and Sardar Khan on one side and Ramadheer Singh and his son on the other side are the highlights of the movie. In between, one also sees different facets of coal mafia, revenge, rivalries among Muslims, and even love stories too. The movie is intense, gripping, and has a fair sprinkling of cuss words one finds in Bihar and Jharkhand, where the film is based. The music of the film is another highlight, and one needs to watch the film to fully realize the relevance of songs in the film. In short: a must- watch movie for those who love hard hitting movies with great acting from all the actors.

lacks the Midas touch of abhinav kashyap
22 December 2012 | by hvivek135-433-109580 (India) – See all my reviews

when i saw dabanng 2 yesterday i felt disappointed, the movie clearly lacks the Midas touch of Anbhinav Kashyap. It just cannot set the bars set by dabanng. If u are a Salman khan fan you would love this movie. But if you are in search for content along with southern masala blam blam then you will be left hungry. Songs are good enough but it feels really irritating when you get less of a story and more songs popping in between every now and then. You can see "kung fu pandey" pulling out all kinds practically impossible stuff in the entire movie, its OK upto some level but an overdose of it kills the entertainment quotient. The biggest flaw of the movie is the director feels uncomfortable stepping out of his comfort lines and has just built up on the pillars of dabanng and there is nothing new in it. Give it a watch if you are a salman fan

oh my god
29 September 2012 | by amritchhetri06 (india) – See all my reviews

its is the best movie in the resent time with descent story. everyone is gonna love this movie. it really impress me,,,

This movie is the perfect example of how a movie can be good without heroines and item numbers, or action and romance. Paresh Rawal should get national award for this movie,he gave his best. Akshay had a short role but he was best, he was perfect for the role of Krishna. I thought it will be a comedy movie, but after watching i will say the movie got everything, comedy, emotions, love, humanity.

Entry of Akshay Kumar was awesome. Mithun was awesome, loved his character, but Paresh stole the show along with Akshay. Even God will watch this movie and say OH MY GOD what a movie
